NMMU Residences has gradually established a commitment to sustainable student housing over the last few years.
As residences we are host to thousands of students and as such the residences impact the campus environment significantly.
NMMU residences has embarked on a campaign to make the residences more eco friendly with the aim of creating sustainable residences where students can live in harmony with ecological processes, minimize consumption, and showing respect for human dignity and health.
We realized the importance of establishing our own structure and officially launched our GREEN CAMPUS INITIATIVE (GCI) on 15 April 2011 during a gala evening. This event was well attended by students from GCI, Residence managers, Staff from the Living & learning & Student Housing as well as Directors & Academic staff of NMMU.
